Position summary

You review a fixed pool of games for a children's digital product and give a clear yes or no on each one. You confirm that the activities match the target age, that the skill development we claim is realistic, that the content is psychologically safe and ethically framed, and that character lines are appropriate.

Separately you assess cultural fit for the United States and the UAE. The format is a one-time expert engagement with a fixed scope.

Key responsibilities

  • A review of the full game pool against developmental norms for the target age range.
  • A check on whether each activity actually supports the skill we claim: cognitive, social-emotional, language or motor.
  • Flags on psychologically unsafe, manipulative or age-inappropriate content, including character lines and scenarios.
  • An assessment of cultural appropriateness for the US and the UAE: family norms, language, themes and context that could read as insensitive.
  • Two written conclusions: one on the approved game pool and one on cultural adaptation per market, with concrete change requests.

Required qualifications

Read this block before applying. If most of these are a no, we won't be able to take you on this role, and we'll both lose the time.

  • Documented expertise in child development or developmental psychology, focused on school-age children, roughly ages 5–12.
  • At least two prior expert reviews, audits or advisory engagements on children's digital content, educational games or programs, with written deliverables you can reference.
  • You can evaluate age fit: activity complexity, emotional load, language level and the design of parent-child interaction.
  • You tell a developmentally plausible learning outcome from a marketing claim without grounding.
  • You know US norms for children's content: age-appropriate design, psychological safety and the common red flags in kids media and EdTech.
  • You know the UAE and Gulf family context: which themes, references and tone are acceptable or sensitive in children's products for that market.
  • Fluent English and clear structured writing: the deliverables are written conclusions, not slide notes.

Nice to have

  • A licence or charter visible in your profile: LP (US state), NCSP, HCPC, BPS Chartered, EuroPsy or equivalent.
  • An EdTech background: curriculum design, learning science or instructional design for ages 3–12.
  • Content review for AI companions, voice characters or interactive toys.
  • Arabic, or direct experience advising products launched in the UAE or wider MENA.

Success metrics

This is what the work in this role is measured against, and what we'll walk through at the final interview.

  • Every game in the pool carries an approved or not-approved decision with reasoning.
  • A written conclusion on the approved pool with concrete change requests, not general observations.
  • A written conclusion on cultural adaptation, separately for the US and the UAE.
  • Every psychological-safety flag walked through with the team before release.

How the process works

We hire slowly and deliberately. Every step is about keeping it honest and aligned for both sides.

01

Screening

We read every application ourselves, no ATS black box. Then a short call with the hiring team to align on experience, expectations and motivation.

02

Deep interview

A long conversation with the stream lead about your track record, real cases and how you decide under uncertainty.

03

Culture fit

One-on-ones with the core team and a founder. We look at values, ethics and how you behave when things get hard.

04

References

We talk to people you've actually worked with. Hygiene for us, not a formality, and we always do it.

05

Pilot contract

Two to four weeks on a real product with a clear Definition of Done and concrete artifacts. We don't give take-home tasks.

06

A 30/60/90 plan and the long game

We match results both ways, set a plan for the first three months and go long. Or part ways honestly.

Apply for this role

The more concrete and honest you are, the faster we'll see whether we're aligned.
